Introduction to Parallel Computing on the HPCC
Michigan State University’s Institute for Cyber-Enabled Research (ICER) is excited to announce the Fall-2025 Introduction to Parallel Computing on the High-Performance Computing Center (HPCC) webinar. This non-credit, training webinar is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the tools for Parallel Computing on ICER’s HPCC.*
Fall 2025
November 24th, 2025, 1:00pm - 4:00pm

* Participants need an active HPCC account to access the HPCC. If you do NOT have an active account, please see our documentation page Obtain HPCC Access.
The prerequisites for meaningful participation in the hands-on exercises are listed below.
- Active ICER HPCC account
- Basic understanding of the HPCC resource environment and the SLURM scheduler
- Basic competency with GNU/Linux Operating Systems
The learning objectives for this training are listed below.
- Understand the terms and concepts of parallel computing: thread, shared memory, distributed memory, speedup, efficiency, scalability
- Estimate the resources needed for a given parallel computation
- Use the SLURM scheduler to request the appropriate resources for parallel computations
- Use HPCC tools to measure the performance and efficiency of parallel computations
