Advanced Computational Research Experience for Students (ACRES)

ACRES is a 10-week summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in computational and data science. This REU is coordinated by Michigan State University's Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering (CMSE), in partnership with the Institute for Cyber-Enabled Research (ICER). The program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Research projects provided through ACRES focus on the development and enhancement of algorithms, models, and software for applications in multiple research areas that require high-performance computing resources. Research areas include computational biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics, as well as data science and earth/climate sciences.
Bioinformatics Core

The MSU Bioinformatics Core is a collaboration among bioinformatics consultants from the Institute for Cyber-Enabled Research (ICER), the Research Support Technology Facility (RTSF), and Biomedical Research Informatics Core (BRIC). They have consolidated their expertise to best serve the bioinformatics needs of the research community at MSU.
The Bioinformatics Core supports research by analyzing complex omics data sets, integrating data from multiple methodologies, and providing a meaningful biological context for the results. They are involved at all stages of the investigative process, including experimental design, constructing and maintaining reproducible workflows, writing and reviewing manuscripts, offering letters of support for grants, and providing training for researchers at all stages of their careers.

The MSU Cloud Computing Fellowship is a cross-disciplinary program produced by MSU's Institute for Cyber-Enabled Research (ICER) and MSU IT Services for invited MSU doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers. As a part of this program, fellows will participate in a series of workshops during the fall semester to:
-Determine the aspects of their research that can be accomplished with cloud computing;
-Incorporate cloud-based systems into their research application or workflow; and
-Understand the strengths and limitations of commercial cloud computing with the goal of improving research yield and minimizing cost, and to develop a workflow that utilized that knowledge.
MSU Research Software Developers Group

The Research Software Developers (RSD) group is an informal, grass-roots group for research software developers within the Michigan State University community.
Software is a crucial part of research and instruction, and the need to develop custom software (or modify existing tools to a new purpose) is increasingly a core component in the engine of innovation and scholarship at MSU.
The goal of the RSD group is to create a community for those who write code to support all manner of scholarly pursuits at MSU. They are supported by, but not affiliated with any MSU unit or department.
