Training Webinar: Introduction to Parallel Computing on the HPCC
Michigan State University’s Institute for Cyber-Enabled Research (ICER) is excited to announce the Spring-2025 Introduction to Parallel Computing using the High-Performance Computing Center (HPCC). This non-credit, training webinar is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the foundations of parallel processes in high-performance research computing using ICER’s HPCC.*
Spring 2025 Schedule
February 20th, 2025, 10:30am - 12:00pm
The prerequisites needed for this course are listed below.
-
Existing MSU ICER HPCC account*
-
Basic ‘High-Performance Computing’ knowledge and skills (e.g., Linux, SLURM)
The learning objectives for this course are listed below.
-
Understand terms and concepts of the resources that support the execution of parallel programs, such as cluster, nodes, CPUs, interconnections.
-
Understand terms and concepts of the parallel programs, such as process, thread, shared memory, distributed memory, speedup, efficiency, scalability.
-
Use linux commands to monitor the execution of programs and make estimation of the resources needed for the execution of a parallel program
-
Use SLURM script to reserve the resources for a parallel program to run.
-
Use tools to measure the performance and efficiency of a parallel program
-
Examples and exercises will be provided for a better understanding of the concepts in the workshop
* Participants need an active HPCC account to access the HPCC. If you do NOT have an existing account, please see our documentation on Obtaining an HPCC Account.
