ICER Research Highlights Receives Two Silver Telly Awards

We are proud to announce that two ICER Research Highlights documentary shorts have won Silver Awards at The 41st Telly Awards this past May. The videos, produced and edited by Ms. Xiaoxing (Adele) Han, were selected from 13,000+ entries from all 50 states and 5 continents. The awards honor excellence in video and television across all screens. The ICER Student Research Highlightshighlights how the High Performance Computing Center (HPCC) at MSU is enabling scientific discovery. HPCC users' incredible research is featured in the form of documentary short films and/or articles describing their work.

“Facade: Identity in the digital age”, featuring Dr. Arun Ross, the lead PI of the iPPRoBe Lab, won the Individual Documentary Award. The documentary showcases Dr. Ross’ research in biometrics, computer vision, machine learning, and pattern recognition. Some of Dr. Ross’ current projects include privacy preserving schemes for biometric data; digital image forensics; anti-spoofing methods for fingerprints, face and iris, etc. 

“Surviving the Changing Climate: Microbiomes”, featuring Dr. Ashley Shade, won the Silver Telly award in the Cinematography Category. Dr. Shade investigates microbial communities, which are discrete populations of bacteria, archaea, fungi, and viruses that interact both with each other and with their local environment. Researchers in the Shade Lab are trying to understand microbiome resilience, which is becoming ever more prevalent with the increase in global climate change.
