Introduction to Parallel Computing on the HPCC

This non-credit, in-person workshop is provided by Michigan State University’s Institute for Cyber-Enabled Research (ICER) and is designed to introduce the basics of parallel computing to users of ICER’s High-Performance Computing Center (HPCC).

This non-credit, in-person workshop is provided by Michigan State University’s Institute for Cyber-Enabled Research (ICER) and is designed to introduce the basics of parallel computing to users of ICER’s High-Performance Computing Center (HPCC).
The prerequisites needed for this course are listed below.
- Existing MSU ICER HPCC account
- Basic understanding of the ICER HPCC environment, Linux and SLURM
The learning objectives for this course are listed below.
- Understand concurrent use of HPCC hardware e.g., cluster, node, core
- Understand concepts of parallel computing e.g., process, thread, distributed memory
- Use Linux to generate and test parallel computations, then estimate required resources
- Use SLURM to reserve required resources and submit a parallel job to the HPCC
- Use Linux based tools to measure the performance and efficiency of a parallel job
*** Attendees are required to bring a Wi-Fi-enabled laptop to the workshop ***
