Upcoming Major Platform Updates
ICER is preparing for a major update of the HPCC’s user environment this fall, upgrading the OS image from CentOS 6 to CentOS 7, moving from Moab and TORQUE to Slurm, and restructuring our module environment. By moving to a more modern software environment, users will see a faster and more reliable system. However, users may need to recompile their code and update their submission scripts.
We will be announcing a schedule for frequent training and workshops in August and September to help users migrate to the new OS in the next few weeks. Best practices guides, references, and frequently asked questions will be posted to our wiki.
The new 2018 cluster will only be available on the new image. Users can begin testing the new development node, dev-intel18, but may wish to wait until our updated documentation is published. There are also nodes from the 2014 and 2016 clusters in the new environment and the schedule for the rest of the nodes to be migrated will be announced in the following weeks.
Please let us know if you have any concerns about the timing of the migration (specific deadlines around publications or work) so we can include that in our planning, or have any questions about the migration.
